THE event of this year's holiday season is a re-imagined Nutcracker!
Greensboro's own sparkling production of The Nutcracker will be not presented in a live performance this year because of COVID restrictions. Instead, it will be professionally recorded and edited (by Paul Byun) at the dazzling & beloved Carolina Theatre. The production will be our traditional performance with a few changes. Our dancers will be wearing face masks, but masks that match their costumes! We're also adding some fun touches that will acknowledge the challenges that we have all faced this year (ex. our Maids in the the Party Scene asking each guest to use some hand-sanitizer as they arrive)!
Then for one weekend in December, Greensboro Ballet will invite YOU to bring your family &/or friends to the Greensboro Coliseum for a special Nutcracker Drive-In presentation of our holiday production. Put on your favorite festive outfit or warm PJ's, load into your vehicle and head downtown for a safe and entertaining "let's-get-out-of-the-house" celebration of the season!

In such a difficult time for our world, we're also hoping our audiences will help us in caring for the hungry in our community by bringing canned or boxed food items to donate to local charities. There will be boxes at each entrance to the Drive-In to collect your food donations to the charities listed below.
December 18 at 7:00pm (BackPack Beginnings)
December 19 at 4:00pm (Out of the Garden Project)
December 19 at 7:00pm (Urban Ministry)
December 20 at 4:00pm (A Simple Gesture)

Was The Nutcracker filmed this year? Yes, it will be filmed November 30-December 3, 2020.
Where was it filmed? In our traditional location for The Nutcracker, the historic Carolina Theatre in Greensboro, NC.
Who filmed this production of The Nutcracker? It will be professionally filmed and edited by Paul Byun (www.paulbyun.com).
Is this the same, traditional performance that the Greensboro Ballet produces each year? Yes, but filmed at the theatre in a new and slightly modern way. Of course, there are also a few minor changes made for safety and creative purposes. For example, all the dancers will be wearing masks that coordinate with their costumes. Another example, for a bit of COVID humor - the Maids in the Party Scene will require all the party guests to use hand sanitizer when arriving at Clara’s house!
What should we wear? There is no dress requirement. However, it might be fun to either wear your “holiday best” attire – as if you were going to the Theatre - or for your group to wear your favorite warm and comfy winter PJ’s!
Will there be concessions? The Greensboro Coliseum offers a Concessions stand with popcorn, soda, water and candy. Greensboro Ballet is also considering offering a Hot Cocoa concession area with baked good items for sale, as well. Contact the Ballet directly if you need confirmation before you attend. firstname.lastname@example.org
Will there be a Nutcracker Boutique? At this time, Greensboro Ballet has not decided whether or not to have a Nutcracker Boutique at our Drive-In events. However, it is having a separate Nutcracker Boutique event at the Greensboro Cultural Center on December 5, 1-5pm. Free for all to attend with social distancing made a priority. Details here.
Can we sit outside our vehicle? Other than sitting in the back of your car with the back open or in an open-bed truck, you may not sit outside your vehicle. No sitting in portable chairs around your vehicle. You can of course, get out of your car to use the restrooms or to get concessions (wearing a mask).
